FA Cup History

The Football Association Challenge Cup also known as the FA Cup was first held in 1871 by its organizer The Football Association, The FA. It's been played at Wembley every year excluding the war years until 2000. Now over 130 years old its the oldest football competition in the world. The FA Cup is a knockout tournament with pairings drawn completely at random. There are no seeds but qualifying round draws are regionalized. The FA Cup winner qualifies for the first round of the UEFA Cup. If the winners also qualify for the UEFA Champions League the losing finalist will qualify for the UEFA Cup in their place. If both finalists qualify for the Champions League, an extra UEFA Cup place is given on the basis of premier league position.
